Ophthalmologist · Retina subspecialty
The retina is difficult.
That is exactly why it has to be explained simply.
In retinal disease, how early it is found and how accurately it is treated largely decides the visual outcome. That judgement comes from years spent on this one part of the eye.
After a retina fellowship at Severance Hospital, Dr. Song spent more than fifteen years treating and teaching retina in university hospitals. She served as Chair of Ophthalmology at CHA University and as Head of Ophthalmology at CHA Bundang Medical Center, and co-authors the retina sections of ophthalmology textbooks in both Korea and the United States.
Career

and patents
Damaged retina rarely recovers. Alongside clinical work, Dr. Song spent ten years on the question of restoring it.
From 2011 to 2021 she was principal investigator of clinical trials of a stem cell therapy for the retina. The results were published in the journal Cell. In 2019 she took part in gene therapy surgery for macular degeneration.
Supporting documentation for the research and patents is held at the clinic.
